Stratmoor Hills Fire Department
The Stratmoor Hills Fire Protection District/Stratmoor Hills Volunteer Fire Department was organized on August 16th, 1960, to provide fire protection and emergency medical services for the 45 families then living in the Stratmoor Hills area. The first Board of Directors meeting was held on September 13th, 1960.
In the last 43 years, the fire department has grown from one WWII retired airfield fire truck from Peterson Army Airfield to 2 Fire Engines, 1 Fast Attack/Light Rescue Truck, 1 Brush Truck, and a Medical Response Unit . In 1960 the fire department responded to 50 calls a year. In 2005 the department responded to over 1300 calls, of which 750 were medical emergencies. The department began with little more than gauze and an oxygen bottle in the back of a station wagon, to currently providing Advanced Life Support using the latest in technology and training.
The district has grown from the original 45 homes in the Stratmoor Hills area to over 6,500 residents. We also provide fire and medical coverage for the adjacent I-25 corridor, as well as, mutual aid to our surrounding communities during fires and major emergencies.
We began with 12 concerned neighbors trying to make a difference and have grown to our current staff of 7 full-time personnel and 20 volunteers who share that same concern and dedication. All of our members are State Certified Firefighters and State Certified in providing emergency medical care. The Volunteer Firefighters have long been respected and valued members of this community.

We are a dynamic and growing department that has been serving with
45 years of Pride & Service to our Community.
